EPA defines solid waste as any garbage, refuse or sludge from wastewater treatment plants, water supply treatment plants, or air pollution control facilities, and other discarded material, including solid, liquid, semi-solid, or contained gaseous material resulting from industrial, commercial, mining and agricultural operations, as well as from community activities.
Hazardous waste is defined as liquid, solid, contained gas, or sludge wastes that contain properties that are dangerous or potentially harmful to human health or the environment.
Industrial waste is made up of a wide variety of non-hazardous materials that result from the production of goods and products. It is made up of many of the following, however not limited to, organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals, primary iron and steel, plastics and resin manufacturing, stone, clay, glass and concrete, pulp and paper, and food products.
